Keep it simple. That's what SprutCAM Expert is all about. You don't need to be a computer 'whiz' to be able to use it.
The reaction we get when we show SprutCAM Expert to people who have already bought other (far more expensive) systems, is always the same, disbelief.
Some people fall into the trap of 'Cost and Value', it's human nature to believe that because you are paying more for something, that it is going to be better than a cheaper product. SprutCAM Expert turns this theory on it's head.
You can see this for yourself with a completely free 30 day trial.

Simply import the model, select the machining strategy and press 'Run'. Obviously there are things like the tool type and diameter and depth of cut to be set, but, the whole process is kept simple.
This doesn't mean that we have compromised on anything to achieve this ease of use, the system is packed with features that even some of the 'mega bucks' systems would love to have.

A lot of the features which we have in SprutCAM are there because of existing customer requests. An example of this is the new 'Geometry measuring' feature which is now standard in SprutCAM 2007.
In the past it was not always easy to measure parts of an imported model, whether it was an angle of a feature or the radius of a fillet for example. Now, with the new 'Geometry measuring' feature we can simply click on a part of a model, and SprutCAM automatically dimensions it for you.
Here is an example........click the image to get a larger view, close the window when done.

In version 4, a tool holder can be defined. This allows for possible tool holder collisions to be found before machining commences on the machine.
The cut Simulator can be set to 'Stop on collision' so that the problem area can be quickly identified and the problem resolved.

New 'Hole Pattern' creation tools allow complex patterns of holes to be created very quickly:

New 'Operation Multiplying' allows for an operation, or a series of operations to be repeated at new positions e.g. linear - Circular (polar) - mirror axis - mirror point.
If several operations are repeated together, the user has the choice of optimising the operations in two ways:
1/ repeat the machining sequences at the new position, i.e. the machining operations (all tool changes etc.) are completed at each location before the next location is visited. This is ideal for 'palletised' fixtures, or
2/ optimise the tool changes so that a single tool is used at each location, then, the next tool is selected and used at each location. This method is ideal for single 'multi-position' fixtures.

Here is a quick list of some of the available machining strategies in SprutCAM Expert version 4:

  • Roughing: Group - waterline - plane - drive - hole machining - pocketing - 2.5D pocketing
  • Finishing: Group - waterline - flat land - plane - drive - optimised plane - complex - combine - engraving - 2D contouring - 3D curve milling - 2.5D wall milling
  • Rest milling: Waterline - plane - drive - optimised plane - complex - pocketing - area rest mill - 2.5D flat land - 2.5D chamfer

In a lot of CAM systems that use surface/solid models, when a model is imported it is 'converted' (triangulated) to a simpler format. Unfortunately, this conversion process also results in an 'approximated' (less accurate) model.
SprutCAM does not convert the model, it works directly with the native surfaces/solids ensuring greater accuracy of the resulting toolpaths.

Supported import formats include: IGES - DXF - PostScript - 3DM (Rhino) - VRML - Parasolid (X_T).

SprutCAM Expert is used in many industries including:

  • Punch/Die manufacture
  • Mould manufacture
  • Pattern making
  • Volume production
  • Aerospace
  • Musical instrument manufacture
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Model making
  • Automobile manufacture
